From October 26 to 27, the "2024 Annual Conference of the China International Economic Law Society" hosted by the China International Economic Law Society and Xiangtan University and organized by the Law School of Xiangtan University was held in Xiangtan City, Hunan Province.




The annual conference centered on the theme "High-Level Institutional Opening-Up and the New Mission of International Economic Law," encompassing a range of topics including "International Law Aspects of Artificial Intelligence and Data Law," "Dual Carbon Rule of Law and Diverse Solutions to Carbon-Related Disputes," "International Investment Law," "International Trade Law and Free Trade Port (Zone) Construction," "Legal Issues in the 'Belt and Road' Initiative and the 'Going Oversea' Strategy," "International Economic Law Research and the Training of Foreign-Related Legal Talent," "Discriminatory Trade Policies and Counter-Sanctions by the United States and Europe," and "International Financial Law." Over 150 experts and scholars from various sectors, including government departments, universities, enterprises, and institutions such as the Ministry of Commerce, the Supreme People's Court, the Department of Justice of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, China Ocean Shipping Group, Shenzhen International Arbitration Court, Peking University, Tsinghua University, University of International Business and Economics, China University of Political Science and Law, Wuhan University, Fudan University, Sun Yat-sen University, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Southwest University, Shenzhen University, and Law Press, attended the conference to deliberate on the aforementioned topics.




Xu Zhenyi, a doctoral candidate at the Law School of Beijing Normal University, participated in the annual conference and delivered a presentation at the fifth sub-session. The speech, titled "Discriminatory Trade Policies and Counter-Sanctions Between the United States and Europe," focused on the theme "The Construction and Implementation of the U.S. Trade Sanctions System Under the Russia-Ukraine Conflict and Russia's Response." The report commenced with an examination of the systemic establishment of U.S. trade sanctions against Russia, encapsulating the dual implementation avenues of these sanctions within the context of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. It delved into the implications of U.S. trade sanctions and the countermeasures employed by Russia, ultimately proposing preventive strategies that Chinese enterprises should consider in light of the escalating trend of U.S. trade protectionism.
